I am a mostly self-trained artist working in ink, watercolor, oil, colored pencil, collage, and illustrator markers. I have studied with local artists Mike Henderson (graphite), Andrea Allen (Chinese brush painting in sumi ink), Kathleen Alexander (watercolor), and Humboldt County-based oil painter Rachel Schlueter, and have continued my art education through the New York Botanical Garden’s courses in Botanical Illustration.
My journey with drawing and painting began in earnest when I was introduced to nature journaling during COVID. I take my inspiration from living on The Sea Ranch, with its mesmerizing and constantly changing landscapes, and native plants, birds, and other wildlife.
I create images in a unique “ink and marker” style that showcase the iconic landscapes and wildlife of the Mendonoma Coast, turning the images into collectible prints that have the feel of old WPA posters.
In 2024, wanting to bridge my skills in graphic layout, writing, and art, I launched Mark Makers’ Quarterly (MMQ), a print journal of rural California art and artists. In 2026, in partnership with Kathleen Alexander, I launched the Grey Whale Gallery, art studio, and workshops on The Sea Ranch.
