DESCRIPTION:This Whale Watch Room Gallery Exhibit “The Environment and Sea” features paintings by Alex Theron. Opening reception with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres Saturday\, September 7 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display from September 7 through December 9. Jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones continues to be on display as well. \nArtist Statement: \nFocusing on renewable materials and recycling\, my practice is centered around The Environment and Sea. \nThis body of work speaks about the history of this area (Mendocino) and the maritime characters and or animals that make it uniquely positioned on the US West Coast. \nHaving spent near most of the last 30 years in some of the world’s most rugged Maritime and Alpine environments\, my work promoted endangered species protection. As I was working remotely operationally with expedition vessels and helicopters (sub Antarctica)\, I witnessed first hand the effects of global warming. \nMy process involves educating those lesser privileged about the impacts of our footprint by telling narratives that are local and global with an emphasis on nature\, community and femininity. \nTraining & Education: \nOcean Engineering FAU\, woods hole\, MIT. 30 years operational\, outdoors education\, not for profits and facilitating operations in World Heritage Parks. Presently working with museums globally to improve public policies\, procedures and bettering funding tiers to vocalize lesser privileged narratives to become heard through Art and information technology. Born in South Africa; 1/3 American; 1/3 New Zealander\, citizen of the world and a woman with a voice.

As children enjoy photos with Santa and face-painting by the Moonrise Pixies and Elves\, adults can meet and speak with artists\, browse booths filled with juried works in glass\, textiles\, wood\, ceramics\, paper\, photography\, art jewelry\, paintings and sculptures\, all offered in a variety of price points. \n\nProceeds from the event support artists\, Crocker Art Museum’s exhibition and educational programs\, and Creatives Arts League of Sacramento’s outreach to Mustard Seed School\, Stanford Settlement\, Sojourner Truth (SoJo)\, Women’s Wisdom Art\, low-cost art tours\, and other important community programs.\n\nWe wish to thank you for your patronage and best wishes for a delightful and warm holiday season!\nJust a bit more information about where the money that the Creative Arts League receives goes.\n\nWe thought you would like to know where the funds go and the great things the show makes possible. The show is one of the Crocker’s 4 annual fundraisers and underwrites exhibitions and supports their educational programs throughout the year. \nThe Creative Arts League sponsors exhibitions regionally\, and has funded two endowments at the Crocker.  In 2017\, we donated $125\,000 to the Crocker Art Museum 2017 Retrospective on Ruth Rippon\, a well-known Sacramento ceramicist.  In 2024\,  we sponsored the 3rd By Hand Exhibit\, an international biennial show\, at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville.  This year we awarded grants to Stanford Settlement\, Rancho Cordova Arts and SoJourner Truth African Heritage Museum and Mustard Seed School to further their arts programs.
