DESCRIPTION:Please come visit Julia and Ling-Yen at the Whale Watch Room. \nAnd see more of Julia’s work at https://www.instagram.com/sonomacoastfeltworks/ \nand my work on my website Ling-yendesigns.com. \nThe opening reception for Julia Carpenter’s Whale Watch Room Gallery gallery exhibit “Coastal Threads“ is Saturday\, March 14 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones is also on display. The exhibit will remain on display through June 7\, 2026.\nArtist Statement\nCreating scenes of our ocean environment with natural fiber. The artwork represented here is comprised of wool and other natural fibers felted together with a special notched needle in a process called needle felting.\nI use a piece of felted wool as a base then use loose wool fibers (roving) and poke them into the base to create the picture. Many types and colors of wool are used\, as well as effect fibers such as silk and bamboo. The notches on the needle snag\, catch\, and tangle the fibers as they are poked into the base felt in what is a very meditative and repetitive exercise.\nInspiration\nWalks among majestic pines and cypress\, redwoods and madrones\, flowering fauna\, sprouting spotted mushrooms\, and the creatures of land and sea inspire me daily.\nBiography\nWorking as a textile artist for many years\, I have learned to weave\, quilt\, and batik. My love of textiles inspired me to study fashion design and then later interior design in the Bay Area. I worked as a color consultant\, faux finish painter\, and eventually Feng Shui practitioner in San Francisco before retiring to The Sea Ranch. Thanks to a friend who came to visit\, I began practicing the rudimentary procedures of an art called needle felting\, and I have developed a passion for it. My work is influenced by the natural splendor of this beautiful coast\, with all its wonders.

DESCRIPTION:Due to a family health issue\, Ling-Yen Designs will not be attending. \nFour garden blocks in the center of the city will be brimming with the work of 250 artists from throughout California\, many other states\, and from around the world. \nThis free show features art by artists who showcase their work in painting\, sculpture\, watercolor\, photography\, mixed media\, ceramics\, glass\, jewelry\, drawing and printmaking.\nAll of the fine arts and crafts are original\, ranging from the traditional to the very contemporary\, and are represented by the artists themselves. \nA Wine and Beer Garden with live music\, demonstrating artists\, children’s activities\, gourmet food trucks and several community exhibits can be found as well. \nShow hours in the spring are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both weekend days; Admission is free. \nThis event takes place rain or shine!  \nVideo of the Beverly Hills Art Show October 2025 from Beverly Hills Television. \nThis is a fun video to see. \nLing-Yen designs will be in booth 160
