SUMMARY:2025 Midori Kai Arts & Crafts Outdoor Boutique Saturday\, September 13\, 2025 booth G9
DESCRIPTION:Midori Kai is a non-profit corporation established in 1996\, and founded with the objective to create an effective organization comprised of Japanese American professional women leaders with various business and creative backgrounds\, who are committed to community involvement\, supporting local charities\, mentoring youth\, and celebrating our Japanese American heritage. \nOver the years\, Midori Kai\, Inc.\, has grown to over 20 Directors\, created an annual Arts & Crafts Boutique community event in March 2000\, which is our major fundraiser. In 2004 Midori Kai established an endowment to ensure Midori Kai could continue to contribute grants to worthy local non-profit organizations.  The 2022 Midori Kai Arts & Craft Boutique will be a “Live Outdoor” event to be held on September 10\, 2022; 9:30 am to 4 pm at Lakeside Office Plaza\, 1279 – 1299 Oakmead Parkway\, Sunnyvale\, CA 94085. \nMidori Kai\, Inc.\, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation\, founded in September 1996 and incorporated in 2000. Midori Kai was established to create an effective organization comprised of Japanese American professional women leaders with various business and creative backgrounds; who are committed to community involvement\, supporting local nonprofit organizations\, mentoring youth\, and celebrating our Japanese American heritage.  Prior to incorporation in 2000\, while defining our future\, our founding Directors framed our mission to bring together women leaders to create and build networks\, to heighten mindfulness\, to build meaningful relationships\, to be champions of dialogue\, learning\, and to serve for the common good.  On November 12\, 1996\, founding Directors approached Reverend Bunyu Fujimura\, Reverend Ejitsu Hojo and Reverend Junjo Tsumura\, retired ministers\, requesting possible names for our newly formed organization. They suggested “Midori Kai”. In Japanese\, Midori translates to “evergreen” or “everlasting” and Kai means “organization.” Our founding Directors agreed this name was very fitting for the new organization. \nadded to the Midori Kai vending boutique list https://midorikai.com/annual-boutique/ \nFind them on \n\nFollow us on Instagram at midorikai.inc\nFollow us on Facebook at Midori Kai\, Inc.

SUMMARY:House of Light\, Coastal Reflections from on High and Down Low\, Jane Casner Mothersill and jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones
DESCRIPTION:The opening reception for Jane Casner Mothersill’s gallery exhibit “House of Light\, Coastal Reflections From On High and Down Low” is Saturday\, September 6\, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones is also on display. The exhibit will remain on display through December 7\, 2025. \nArtist Statement:  \nI would describe my art as “inspired realism” – interpretations and visual expression emanating from my interaction with nature\, people\, cultures\, and ideas. While unequivocally representational\, I work to convey broader messages in its execution\, seeking to elicit emotional and intellectual responses from the viewer. Concepts such as truth\, beauty\, and conflict\, as well as temporal and cultural elements\, underpin my work\, which encompasses oil\, pastel\, charcoal\, and mixed media paintings and terra cotta and bronze sculptures. \nMy landscape paintings are completed substantially on site\, where I can feel the intimacy of nature and the confluence of elements that impact one’s perception of their surroundings. My still lives\, which are undertaken primarily in my studio\, are often symbolic in conveying a sense of beauty that lies in the world within – occasionally incorporating diverse and culturally specific elements in telling their stories. My figurative works tend to be emotional\, conveying feelings of or toward my subject. \nIn the Whale Watch Gallery\, I will be displaying a number of works I have undertaken at the Point Arena Lighthouse specifically for this exhibit\, including paintings completed both from the lighthouse tower and in the surrounding environs. The microclimate of the lighthouse point provided various weather experiences on the days I was painting\, resulting in different atmospheres and moods as the light and shadows changed. I endeavored to capture these unique and fleeting moments in each of my paintings. I have worked mostly in pastels for this exhibit\, which are ideal for Plein Aire painting on site\, but I have also included two oil paintings\, which were finished in my studio. \nMy development as a practicing artist has been inexorably tied to my life arc and experiences. After graduating from Georgetown University\, I moved to the Philippines\, where I began pursuing Chinese brush painting. Upon my return to the US\, I studied painting\, drawing\, and sculpture full-time at the Art Students League of New York and\, subsequently\, was awarded a full merit scholarship to attend the Graduate School of Figurative Art at the New York Academy\, where I received an MFA in painting and sculpture in 1990. My education has also included studying with a wide range of practicing artists\, both in the US and overseas. While living in Tokyo and Hong Kong from 1990 to 2005\, I renovated an old house in a small village in the Loire Valley\, boasting a significant international artist community where I would spend summers painting. I have participated in over 50 exhibitions in the US\, Japan\, Hong Kong\, France\, and the Philippines\, including 10 solo shows\, and have received numerous awards for my work. \nI live full-time at Sea Ranch\, CA. Since relocating from Marin County in 2018\, and have enjoyed becoming an active participant in the local art community. In 2022\, I was fortunate to complete the construction of a separate art studio at our home\, where I spend my days working – if not painting outdoors. More information is available at my website – www.janecasnermothersill.com \nJewelry artist Ling-Yen Jones offers a striking contrast with her finely wrought silver\, semi-precious stones\, and pearls. Based in Mendocino County\, Jones creates one-of-a-kind pieces that range from traditional to modern\, often incorporating motifs such as leaves\, birds\, and windows—symbols of growth\, hope\, and transformation. Her training includes studies with David Laplantz at Humboldt State University\, Monterey Peninsula College\, and workshops at the Mendocino Art Center. Jones is also the gallery coordinator for the Coast Highway Artist Collective in Point Arena and has exhibited widely across Northern California. Her work\, including evocative pieces like “Unmentionables\,” draws inspiration from the Ukiyo-E period of Japanese art\, blending expressive faces with hidden floral and romantic imagery to explore themes of serenity and everyday grace. \n\nJane Casner Mothersill & Ling-Yen Jones at the Lighthouse in the Whale Watch Room \n\nhttps://www.pointarenalighthouse.com/post/whale-watch-room-gallery-opening-reception-jane-casner-mothersill

SUMMARY:Almost Fringe returns to Point Arena 2025
DESCRIPTION:Almost Fringe Festival returns to Point Arena By Rozann Grunig \nThe unusual\, the bizarre\, just a bit whacky\, maybe even shocking – that’s what the Almost Fringe Festival is all about. Join the members of the Coast Highway Art Collective in Point Arena for a celebratory opening reception of this fun and free-form event on Saturday\, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Collective is hosting music and exhibiting new works by Collective members. Although the opening is set to coincide with Almost Fringe Festivals around the globe\, the exhibit will be available for viewing at CHAC from April 3 to April 27. \nLoosely based on the International fringe art movement\, Mendocino County celebrates this as a month-long festival at several venues to celebrate all of the creative happenings countywide\, from traditional to cutting edge and artsy to agrarian. \nThe original Fringe Festival is held annually in Edinburgh\, Scotland. It is the largest art festival in the world.   This festival spans 25 days and includes events in 294 venues in the following categories theatre\, comedy\, dance\, physical theatre\, circus\, cabaret\, children’s shows\, musicals\, opera\, music\, spoken word\, exhibitions and events. \nLocally\, the festival is being promoted by the Point Arena Merchants Association. The goal of the festival is to have a culturally diverse festival that reflects the complexity of our amazing community. Local merchants and restaurants will be participating to create a fun and engaging festival street scene. \n“Almost Fringe is my favorite event each year\,” says collective member Rozann Grunig. The object is to create art that comes from the heart and the mind\, regardless of the commercial value. As artists\, we spend too much time assessing if a piece we are creating will sell. The pieces we envision for Almost Fringe are for fun\, relevance\, emotions and the sheer joy of creating.” \nThe Coast Highway Art Collective is joining into the festivities with artists Paula Rie Bonham\, handmade greeting cards; James Docker\, wood wall art; Linda Green\, ceramics; Jeannie Haydon\, metal wall sculpture; Perry Hoffman\, ceramic and photography; Emma Hurley\, ceramics & clothing; Ling-Yen Jones\, jewelry; Kirk McCarthy\, jewelry; Jacqueline Mooney\, Wild Fire Fusion\, Glass; Cindy Morey\, photography; Shawn Quinlan\, quilts; Siobhan\,  silk scarves; Neno Villamor\, paper clay cards; Carol Williams\, sculpture and jewelry. Other collective members will also have new and interesting pieces on exhibit in the spirit of the festival theme. \nLive music is provided by Black Sugar Rose from 12 to 2 p.m. and Bard of a Feather from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet the artists and learn more about Almost Fringe and the collective during the opening reception. \nThe Coast Highway Art Collective is located at 284 Main St.\, Point Arena\, the little red building with the big yellow sun\, located next to the Redwood Coast Credit Union. Regular hours are Thursday through Saturday\, 11 am to 4 pm. and Sundays by appointment.  Visit the website at www.coast-highway-artists.com for information about the collective’s artists\, upcoming events and how to join. DESCRIPTION:This Whale Watch Room Gallery Exhibit features present and past winners of the California Ocean and Coastal Amateur Photography Contest. Opening reception with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres Saturday\, December 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display from December 14 through February 3\, 2025. Jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones continues to be on display as well. \nCalifornia is in many ways defined by its coast and ocean\, which provide us with enjoyment\, beauty\, solace\, and adventure. The California Ocean and Coastal Amateur Photography Contest pays tribute to these special places\, honors the diversity of wildlife they support\, and celebrates our ability to access and enjoy these special places. This exhibit features a selection of prize-winning images from the contest over the years\, including winners from 25th annual contest that was held during the summer of 2024. The recent contest received 963 submissions from photographers across California. A judging panel consisting of professional photographers and naturalists unanimously selected winners and honorable mentions. \nThis annual contest is sponsored by the California Coastal Commission\, which was established by voter initiative in 1972 to provide long-term protection for California’s 1\,100-mile coastline. The Coastal Commission’s Public Education Program provides opportunities for the public to learn about and connect with California’s remarkable coast and ocean. \nLighthouse exhibit for Dec. 2024-Feb. 2025 \nLink California Coastal Conservancy Photo Contest Winners at the Point Arena Lighthouse in the Whale Watch Room

SUMMARY:The Magical Art of Collaboration at the Gualala Art Center December 6\, 2024 to Jan 5\,2025
DESCRIPTION:I am excited to be a part of this exhibit. \nThanks to Donnalynn for collaborating with me. \nHere is a statement she wrote about our collaborating. \nAn Arm and A Leg & More \ndonnalynn chase & Ling-Yen Jones \nHow can a jeweler collaborate with a collage artist? \nHow can a collage artist collaborate with a jeweler? \nThose were the questions Ling-Yen and donnalynn asked themselves. Eventually we admitted to each other that we would like to create something out of body parts. Working with those odd elements was something we always wanted to do. So then\, we did what we normally do in our creative work\, we gathered materials and began. Ling-Yen made her jewelry and donnalynn hunted through her large collection of “more” and chose items that complements an arm and a leg. We met a few times to review our work and findings. \nOf course\, Ling-Yen created her work from semi-precious stones\, pearls\, silver – and clay doll arms. All the items we made and found were then assembled by donnalynn into an old artist’s box. Our collaboration basically became a 3D collage with jewelry. The pendant that Ling-Yen made with a miniature collage by donnalynn is truly a pure collaboration.  The jewelry pieces can be purchased separately\, as well as the assemblage from the artists after the exhibit. \n
