SUMMARY:The Environment and the Sea featuring Alex Theron painting & Ling-Yen Jones jewelry at the PT. Arena Lighthouse September-December 2024
DESCRIPTION:This Whale Watch Room Gallery Exhibit “The Environment and Sea” features paintings by Alex Theron. Opening reception with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres Saturday\, September 7 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display from September 7 through December 9. Jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones continues to be on display as well. \nArtist Statement: \nFocusing on renewable materials and recycling\, my practice is centered around The Environment and Sea. \nThis body of work speaks about the history of this area (Mendocino) and the maritime characters and or animals that make it uniquely positioned on the US West Coast. \nHaving spent near most of the last 30 years in some of the world’s most rugged Maritime and Alpine environments\, my work promoted endangered species protection. As I was working remotely operationally with expedition vessels and helicopters (sub Antarctica)\, I witnessed first hand the effects of global warming. \nMy process involves educating those lesser privileged about the impacts of our footprint by telling narratives that are local and global with an emphasis on nature\, community and femininity. \nTraining & Education: \nOcean Engineering FAU\, woods hole\, MIT. 30 years operational\, outdoors education\, not for profits and facilitating operations in World Heritage Parks. Presently working with museums globally to improve public policies\, procedures and bettering funding tiers to vocalize lesser privileged narratives to become heard through Art and information technology. Born in South Africa; 1/3 American; 1/3 New Zealander\, citizen of the world and a woman with a voice.

SUMMARY:THE POINT ARENA-STORNETTA LANDS AND BEYOND A landscape photography Scott Chieffo & handmade jewelry by Ling-Yen Jones
DESCRIPTION:THE POINT ARENA-STORNETTA LANDS AND BEYOND A landscape photography exhibit by Scott Chieffo In the approximately 20 years that he has been living on the Southern Mendocino County Coast\, Scott has developed an intimate photographic relationship with its unique landscape. His images capture the subtle beauty of the coast and forests with a highly unique\, “painterly” style that emphasizes the quiet solitude of these landscapes. \nThe focus for this exhibit will be some of Scott’s favorite images captured on The Point ArenaStornetta Lands over the past several years. The dramatic coastal bluffs\, sea arches\, and incredible views found here offer seemingly unlimited photo opportunities for both serious and casual photographers alike. The omnipresent Point Arena Lighthouse as a backdrop only adds to the magic of this extraordinary landscape. In addition\, Scott will be showing a small collection of images taken in other locations along the varied and beautiful coastline of Mendocino County\, from Bowling Ball Beach north to Mendocino. While the vast majority of his artistry takes place in the field\, Scott’s technical mastery in the “digital darkroom” allows him to optimize each image digitally so that the finished print matches his original artistic vision. Unlike traditional printing methods\, the metal prints Scott is showing for this exhibit are created by infusing dyes directly into a specially-coated sheet of aluminum. This technique creates a vibrant and durable print that is resistant to fading\, moisture\, and fingerprints. \nFor the past several years\, Scott has shown his fine art photography prints at galleries and exhibits along the west coast. His work is represented in private collections throughout the United States and beyond. Some of his earliest images taken on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands were used in the public relations effort to eventually have these lands added as the first mainland-based unit of the California Coastal National Monument in 2014. \nLing-Yen Jones will be showing and sharing her handmade jewelry works. It is inspired by the ocean and nature. \nOn the opening which is May 11th. Scott will be at the opening from 5-6 pm. \nThe Bureau of Land Management\, Point Arena Lighthouse\, Friends of Point Arena-Stornetta Lands\, City of Point Arena\, California Native Plant Society and Mendocino College are presenting “Celebrate the Coast” on Saturday\, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  This free to the public event will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lands being named as part of the California Coastal National Monument.  You are invited to participate in this event in one or more of the following ways: \n\nSpecial activities at your business\nDiscounts on purchases\nFree samples\nFree gifts\nFree food and/or drink\nDisplay event posters\nHand out event schedules\n\n

SUMMARY:Love\, Death\, Transformation & Consciousness Madeline Kibbe & Ling-Yen Jones
DESCRIPTION:Love\, Death\, Transformation and Consciousness Madeline Kibbe & Ling-Yen Jones \nOpens April 6th\, 1-3 pm \nExhibit up through April 28\, 2024 \nThe dolphin Gallery in Seacliff center in Downtown Gualala. \nThe Dolphin Gallery in downtown Gualala will open a new exhibit on Saturday\, April 6th from 1-3 p.m. featuring the works of Ling-Yen Jones\, and Madeline Kibbe\, the exhibition title “Love\, Death\, Transformation and Consciousness\,” will showcase sculptures and jewelry inspired by universal themes and personal expressions. \nKibbe makes sculptures with found objects and materials that have symbolic meanings. She uses text and symbols to start a conversation about love. death\, transformation\, and consciousness. She says she is influenced by the works of Montien Boonma and Noah Purifoy\, two artists who used recycled materials and cultural references in their art. \nJones creates rings\, necklaces\, and earrings that draw inspiration from the rich history of circular adornments. She cites Dana Scarisbrick’s book “Rings: Symbols of Wealth\, Power and Affection” as a source of information about the role of rings in different cultures and times. She says rings can signify both faith and mortality\, as well as mutual fidelity and love. \nHowever\, Jones’ approach to crafting rings is rooted in simplicity and joy. She says she finds inspiration in whimsy and playfulness\, incorporating elements such as faces\, windows\, and cranes in her designs. She aims to capture the essence of joy and individuality in each piece. \nThe exhibit will run through May 5th at the Dolphin Gallery\, located in the Seacliff Center. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. \nLove\, Death\, Transformation & Consciousness link to GAC article in Sketches.
