SUMMARY:"Time Shapes Us" & "Lost Leader" with Liam Ericson
DESCRIPTION:I am excited to have a show at the Dolphin this year. \nI look forward to working with Liam as well. \nOur opening is Saturday\, November 12\, 2022 \nTime Shapes Us” and “Lost Leader”\nLing-Yen Jones and Liam Ericson\nA New Exhibit\nNovember 11 through December 12\, 2022 \nThe Dolphin Gallery and Gift Shop \nFree \n\n“Time Shapes Us” and “Lost Leader”\nTwo exhibits open at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala in November. “Time Shapes Us”\, featuring the works of Ling-Yen Jones\, and “Lost Leader”\, the works of Liam Ericson\, will both open Saturday\, November 11 at the Dolphin Gallery in the Sea Cliff center\, 39140 Highway One\, Gualala.  \nLing-Yen Jones presents “Time Shapes Us”\, an exhibit featuring her jewelry creations. The Mendocino County jeweler works mainly in silver\, semi-precious stones\, and pearls\, and her style ranges from the traditional to the modern\, and is completely unique. All of her pieces are individually handmade\, and are therefore one-of-a-kind or in small series with repeating motifs. \nJones’ trained with David Laplantz at Humboldt State University\, at Monterey Peninsula College\, and various Mendocino Art Center workshops and assistantships. “I am presently working with my company Ling-Yen Designs and selling my work on Etsy\, as well as other exhibitions and shows.” She defines jewelry as creations\, which are useful\, artistic\, symbolic\, identifying\, and an expression of personal ideas. In my earring line some of the motifs I use are leaves\, birds\, and windows. “When these elements and others are integrated into a piece they can represent new beginnings\, changes\, hope\, and further growth in ones self. The materials that I enjoy using most are sterling silver\, copper\, gold\, pearls\, and semiprecious stones.” \nJones adds\, “the pieces with the Asian like faces are inspired by the feminine\, graceful\, and romantic scenes of the Ukiyo-E period of Japanese art. The piece\, “Unmentionables”\, has different faces\, all expressions of surprise\, serenity\, wonder\, and ecstasy. On the back of the piece there are hidden hand cut flowers\, roller printed leaf patterns\, and scenes of paired lovers. Ukiyo-E\, or images of the floating world\, were representations of the everyday life of Japan in the 16th through the 19th centuries. This piece brings together my own interest in the expressive power of faces\, while exploring the serenity and grace of the everyday in my own time.” \nAlso exhibiting at the Dolphin Gallery is Liam Ericson. His works will be displayed under the heading of “Lost Leader.” Known to many on the Mendonoma Coast as an artist and naturalist\, Ericson continues to be inspired by the natural environment of the beautiful lands in coastal Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.  \nFor years\, the Annapolis resident has been drawn to\, and has explored\, the wilds of the Gualala River watershed—including the area known as Preservation Ranch\, seeking out old growth redwood trees to photograph and document; the trees and the wildlife associated with them are the inspiration for his art. For those who may not be aware of the area (which was saved from development almost a decade ago)\, a 2013 article by the San Francisco Chronicle documented the event. “A giant redwood forest in Sonoma County that was on the verge of being divvied up and plowed over into a patchwork of vineyards has been preserved by a public-private partnership that engineered what is being touted as the largest land conservation deal in California history.”   \nA visit to the Dolphin Gallery will give art lovers a unique perspective through the art of Liam Ericson and Ling-yen Jones\, which will be on display. The exhibit continues through December 4\, 2022.  \n\n

The overall effect is for the viewer to be effortlessly invited into each painting\, experiencing a peaceful balance and harmony in a timeless continuum. \nAnd Ling-Yen \nThe pieces with the Asian like faces are inspired by the feminine\, graceful\, and romantic scenes of the Ukiyo-E period of Japanese art. DESCRIPTION:At this point\, we are a “GO” for a live 2022 Tour! \nThe successes of the 2021 Tour were welcome in the shadow of the ongoing pandemic. The big lesson was that we can be “pandemic safe” and have our commerce\, too\, if we are diligent. What works for everybody is getting fully vaccinated (that includes the booster)\, masking appropriately\, distancing\, controlling our gatherings\, do as much outside as we can\, and minimizing visits into our tight indoor spaces. We are all used to this\, and our customers feel safe as well. \nLing-Yen designs will be at Siobhan’s as a guest artist \n25215 Ten Mile Road Point Arena\, CA 95468 \nDirections from Hwy 1 at mile marker 15.12 in Point Arena\, Go east on River Road/Eureka Hill Road for about three miles. SUMMARY:2022 Sister City Exchange show at the Mendocino Art Center
DESCRIPTION:Please come see the up-and-coming Mendocino art Center 2022 Sister city Exchange Show. \nThe Japanese artists from Omachi will have their works as well as Mendocino County artists. \nPlease see our website for the exhibitors.https://www.mendocinoartcenter.org/exhibitions/mendocino-sister-city-exhibit \nhttps://www.mm-artexchange.org \n\n\n\n\n\n\n　 \n\n\nThree hours away from San Francisco by car lies Mendocino. A city on a plateau overlooking the Pacific with a rich natural mountain range and beautiful Redwood forests. In the area surrounding Mendocino\, many artists and craftsmen dwell\, seeking a place of scenic beauty. Since there are many galleries\, people from all over the country visit the area to see the art. \nMendocino and Miasa have been sustaining an exchange since Bill Zacha\, who established the Mendocino Art Center\, and Toshi Yoshida\, a woodblock printer\, created a sister city relationship in 1980. They began an exchange exhibition to allow for the artistic exchange between the artists of the Mendocino area\, and the artists of Omachi\, Azumino and Matsumoto in 2008. This year marks its 14th anniversary. An international exchange of the artistic world such as this gives people from different cultural backgrounds the opportunity to see all kinds of inspiration and brings motivation for creation\, leading to new projects. We hope that this art exchange will develop further and that the possibilities of locally created culture in both of our countries will continue to expand. \n\n\n\n
